The American Chaco Is A Manufacturer Of Sandals And Is Best Known For Its Product Line Of Adjustable Z-Strap Sandals For Outdoor And Water Use, Often Called “Chacos“. The Adjustable Outdoor Sandals Are Distinguished By The Fact That They Use A Single Strap That Runs Around The Foot Through The Sole And Thus Can Be Adjusted To Fit Without Additional Fastenings. They Are Available With A Range Of Sole Types And Strap Configurations, Suitable For Different Environments. Company Founder Mark Paigen Was A Whitewater Rafting And Fly Fishing Guide, And In 1989 He Decided To Create An Outdoor Sandal That Left His Feet To Dry In The Sun So He Wouldn’T End His Days With Wrinkled Feet. His Goal Was To Produce A Sandal That Also Provides Support To The Foot. He Created A Pair Of Custom Sandals With A Continuous Synthetic Material Strap And A Buckle Instead Of Velcro. The First Pair Of Sandals Was Sold To A Customer Who Accompanied Paigen On A Three-Day Float. Customer Feedback Led Paigen To Consult A Pedorthist To Improve The Overall Design Of The Shoe. After Several Modifications, The Sandal Was Ready To Be Released. He Decided To Name The First Sandal “Z/1” Because His Friend Used A French Accent And Told Him The Sandals Were “Zee One”!
